Member of Parliament for Wa West Constituency, Peter Lanchene Tobuu, has expressed grave concerns over alleged irregularities in the recruitment process of security personnel in Ghana, describing it as “state capture.” In a recent interview, he warned that these practices could lead to the politicization of the security sector, compromising national security and democracy.
Tobuu, a member of the Defence and Interior Committee of Parliament, alleged that recruitment slots are being allocated among NPP Parliamentary Candidates, leading to confusion and concern among young Ghanaians who applied to join the security services in 2021 and 2022 but were not selected. He criticized the Ministry of Interior for interfering in administrative matters that should be managed by the heads of security agencies.
The MP emphasized the need for a standard, transparent process, warning against deviations that could result in the selection of unqualified individuals. He highlighted the frustration and disillusionment of young Ghanaians awaiting fair recruitment opportunities, stressing that merit should be the sole criterion for selection.
Tobuu’s concerns echo those of Minority Leader, Dr. Ato Forson, who previously raised alarm over the allocation of recruitment slots among NPP Parliamentary Candidates. The issue has sparked widespread concern, with many calling for transparency and objectivity in the recruitment process to ensure the security sector remains apolitical and efficient.
