The Member of Parliament for Manso Nkwanta, Tweneboah Fokuo, has come to the defense of Kwabena Adu-Boahene, the former National Signals Bureau (NSB) boss, regarding his controversial decision to submit a detailed memo to the National Security Coordinator. Apexnewsgh reports
The memo has sparked significant public and political debate, particularly due to Adu-Boahene’s assertions that over GH¢8 million was disbursed to opposition parties to assist with the procurement of logistics and equipment for the upcoming 2024 general elections.
Adu-Boahene further claimed that the GH¢49 million he is currently being prosecuted for was allocated to covert national security operations. Additionally, he alleged that GH¢5,135,000 was paid to the special aide of the then President-elect for the acquisition of high-end vehicles, including notable models such as a Nissan Patrol Platinum, a 2024 Nissan Patrol Titanium, and a 2022 Land Cruiser GXR. He has accused the Attorney General of conducting a “malicious prosecution” against him.
Speaking on ‘The Big Issue’ with Channel One TV, Tweneboah Fokuo criticized the detractors of Adu-Boahene, asserting that the former NSB head had little choice but to disclose the information in question. Fokuo explained that Adu-Boahene had initially made efforts to engage with Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine, but after facing challenges, he felt compelled to reach out to the National Security Coordinator as a last resort amid mounting pressure and criticism.
Fokuo pointed out, “If you read his letter carefully, he mentioned that he had previously withheld this information from his interrogators, fully aware of the implications for the nation. He made every effort to try to reach out to the Attorney General but never had the chance, which pushed him to the wall.”
“He was under immense pressure,” Fokuo continued. “When the issue started, people were attacking him, making various accusations. Ultimately, he felt he had no option but to make this information public as a last resort, and now some are quick to judge him.”
As the fallout from Adu-Boahene’s memo continues to unfold, the political ramifications are being closely monitored, with calls for greater scrutiny into the allegations he has raised.
