The Upper East Communication Bureau of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has strongly condemned the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government for its great failures and the economic hardship it has imposed on the people of the region. Apexnewsgh reports
This pronouncement comes ahead of Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia’s visit to the region on Friday, May 17, 2024.
According to the NDC, they remain resolute against empty promises and misleading rhetoric. The current economic hardship in the country is unprecedented and unparalleled, with the Upper East region being the hardest hit in recent times, leaving people barely able to survive. The Ghana Statistical Service reports that the region tops the non-food inflation category in March 2024, with a staggering 53.2% inflation rate and a 22.9% food inflation rate.
The NDC attributes this dire situation to an insensitive and inept government whose only expertise lies in deception and empty promises. They aim to highlight to the people of the Upper East Region the poor track record of the NPP, characterized by the abandonment of critical projects, including:
– The Pwalugu Multipurpose Dam project
– The 120-unit affordable housing project in Puso-namongo
– The Bolga-Bawku-Pulmako Road project
– The Bolgatanga Airport project
– The Navrongo-Kologo-Naaga road
– The Bolga-Shirigu-Naaga Road
– The Sandema-Fumbisi Road
– The deceptive 1V1D, 1D1F policies
– The Upper East Regional Police Hospital project
– Administration block project at Zorko SHS in the Bongo District
– An 18-unit classroom block project at Gowire SHS in the Bongo District
– Second phase of the Tamne Irrigation Dam project
– The failed promise of providing household toilets
The NDC demands answers from Vice President Bawumia, who leads the Economic Mismanagement Team (EMT), regarding the exorbitant price hikes that have paralyzed businesses across the region and the plethora of failed promises and abandoned projects. While the NPP engages in self-serving propaganda, the NDC remains committed to the people of the Upper East Region, rejecting empty promises and political theatrics and standing firmly for truth, accountability, and tangible progress under the leadership of H.E John Mahama. During his tenure, the region witnessed substantial developmental projects, including rural electrification, road constructions, educational enhancements, and healthcare infrastructure, among many others.
