Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, running mate of Dr. Bawumia, has made some bold claims about the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its stance on Muslims.

While touring constituencies in the Savanna Region on November 7, Opoku Prempeh stated that it’s an abomination (haram) for Muslims to vote for the NDC, alleging the party doesn’t like Muslims.

He pointed to the removal of Mohammed Muntaka and Haruna Iddrisu from parliamentary leadership as evidence, claiming John Mahama, the NDC leader, took action against them because of their faith.

Opoku Prempeh also brought up past incidents, such as the destruction of mosques in Accra and Koforidua, which were allegedly converted into a park and garbage dump, respectively.

During his visit to the Yagbon Wura Palace, Opoku Prempeh sought blessings from traditional authorities to kickstart his outreach efforts.

Addressing a crowd in Larabanga, he passionately urged Muslim supporters to vote for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), describing it as the only party genuinely concerned about Ghana’s Muslim population.

Opoku Prempeh further accused the NDC of removing the iconic Larabanga Mosque from Ghana’s currency, symbolizing the party’s disregard for Islamic heritage. He criticized former President John Mahama’s pledge to build mortuaries in Muslim communities, citing cultural insensitivity.

Concluding his address, Opoku Prempeh called on Muslim voters to stand with the NPP, promising meaningful change and empowerment. Mr. Abu Jinapor, Member of Parliament for Damongo, highlighted the NPP’s achievements in the constituency and expressed confidence in the party’s continued influence.
