Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has announced that COCOBOD will pay the university fees of all children of cocoa farmers who gain admission starting next year. Apexnewsgh reports
This promise was made during the 2024 Farmers’ Day celebrations at Odotobri Constituency in the Amansie Central Assembly.
Dr. Bawumia expressed confidence that this initiative will alleviate the financial burden on parents, building on the success of the free Senior High School (SHS) program. “Today, because of the free SHS, everybody’s child is attending senior high school for free. Government has taken the decision that from next year, children of cocoa farmers, COCOBOD will pay their university fees for free,” he stated.
However, the Chief of Odotobri, Nana Adu Darko, raised concerns about the devastating impact of climate change on farmlands in the area. He appealed to the incoming president to help restore the lands and embark on an afforestation drive, highlighting the importance of preserving forest trees for sustainable farming.
In response, Dr. Bawumia assured the community of his commitment to addressing the deplorable state of farmlands through the introduction of new technology. This promise aligns with his vision for a prosperous Ghana, as outlined in the NPP’s 2024 manifesto.
Dr. Bawumia’s pledge has generated excitement among cocoa farmers and their families, who see this initiative as a significant investment in their children’s future.
As the NPP flagbearer, Dr. Bawumia continues to outline his plans for Ghana’s development, including initiatives to support farmers, promote economic growth, and enhance education.
