NPP Parliamentary Primaries: Results so far, some incumbents losing hugely.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has wrapped up its parliamentary primaries in various constituencies, determining candidates for the upcoming 2024 parliamentary elections. A total of 321 candidates were vying for tickets to represent the NPP, with 33 contenders running unopposed. The Electoral Commission was responsible for overseeing the elections.

In the Akyem Swedru constituency, Kennedy Osei Nyarko, the incumbent Member of Parliament, successfully retained his seat as the parliamentary candidate for the December 7 polls. He secured 196 votes in a fiercely contested race against two other aspirants. Kwasi Kwaning-Bosompem, the Controller and Accountant-General, came in second with 94 votes, while Jerome Okyere-Akordor, a Tema-based businessman, received 10 votes.

Provisional results from other constituencies are as follows:

Asene Manso Akroso:
The incumbent Member of Parliament for Asene Manso Akroso, George Kwame Aboagye, won the primary with 362 votes, defeating his opponent Alex Owusu Adjei, who garnered 152 votes.

Atwima Mponua:
The incumbent Member of Parliament for Atwima Mponua, Isaac Kwame Asiamah, lost the NPP parliamentary primary. Asiamah received 330 votes, while his contenders Mr. Osei Bonsu and Mr. Seth Osei Akoto secured 72 votes and 375 votes, respectively.

Adansi Asokwa:
Kobina Tahir Hammond, the incumbent Member of Parliament for the Adansi Asokwa constituency, successfully retained his candidature after receiving 311 votes (63.86%). Samuel Darkwa Binfo, his challenger, obtained 125 votes (25.67%). Hammond has held the seat for five consecutive terms.

Abuakwa North:
Gifty Twum-Ampofo, the incumbent Member of Parliament, lost her bid to represent the Abuakwa North constituency, polling 202 votes. Nana Ampaw Addo-Frempong emerged victorious with 222 votes. Palgrave Boakye Danquah, a prominent figure in Ghana’s security and governance, garnered 76 votes.

Tano North:
Freda Prempeh, the incumbent Member of Parliament, was defeated by Gideon Boako, the spokesperson of the Vice President and NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Prempeh received 221 votes, while Boako garnered 444 votes.

Atiwa West:
Laurrette Korkor Asante emerged as the winner in the Atiwa West constituency, polling 177 votes. Prince Benjamin Aboagye and Kingsley Ofosu Ntiamoah secured 134 votes and 48 votes, respectively. Samuel Awuah Danquah received 18 votes.

Ablekuma West:
Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the Minister of Communications and Digitalisation, won the parliamentary primary for the Ablekuma West constituency with 812 out of 1108 total votes. Roni Kwesi Nicol, her contender, lost the bid.

Bekwai:
COP George Alex Mensah failed in his first attempt to become the Member of Parliament for the Bekwai constituency. He received 245 votes, while Ralph Opoku Adusei secured 662 votes.

Kwesimintim:
Hon. Dr. Prince Hamid Armah triumphed in the NPP Parliamentary primaries for the Kwesimintim constituency, garnering 248 votes against his opponent Dr. Mrs. Yaa Pokua Baiden’s 160 votes.

These are just a few of the results from the NPP parliamentary primaries, as voting has concluded in various constituencies. The party is currently in the process of determining its candidates for the 2024 parliamentary elections.
