Apexnewsgh

Since the 4th republic came to exist, as a country we have had the 7th council of states and very soon the 8th council of state will be ushered into office through both the electing of regional representative i.e. 16 regions because each region is to elect one rep to represent the said region.

According to the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, Article 89 (2) indicating how the membership of the council of state are formed.

Per article 89 (2) (c), every District Assembly within the region is to elect or nominate two members from the assembly to form the electoral college.

Instead of calling the assembly meeting i.e. order 7 of the model standing orders for metropolitan, municipal, and district assemblies for its members to nominate two of the assembly members to attend and represents their assembly, rather some of the MMDCEs together with their district coordinating directors may handpicked their favorite assembly members and submitted their names to the regional electoral commission as the representative for their assembly without the entire assembly members concerned, which is contrary to the laws governing the council of state elections, due to the MMDCE”s and CD’s personal interest.
