Some residents of Bolgatanga Municipality and Bongo District of the Upper East Region have lauded their representatives in Parliament following the action they claimed their MP took on their behalf during the Monday E-Levy debate.
According to the minority in Parliament, the introduction of the E-Levy would disproportionately affect lower-income people and those outside the formal banking system who relied heavily on mobile money transfers, reducing overall economic activity.
However, the disagreement was further triggered by the absence of the speaker, Mr. Alban Bagbin even as the house finance committee tabled the motion.
The speaker had delegated his deputy to take over the house proceeding following his absence on Monday afternoon.
The opposition members were irritated when the deputy speaker stood to vote on the E-levy tax.
Meanwhile, Isaac Adongo Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central and Edward Bawa Member of Parliament for Bongo Constituency have received massive applause from their various constituents and members of their party across the region for the role they played during the E-Levy debate between NPP and NDC caucus in Parliament on Monday.
