Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister-designate, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has vowed to revolutionize the country’s passport acquisition process. Apexnewsgh reports
Speaking before the Appointments Committee on Friday, January 31, Ablakwa emphasized the need to harness advanced technology to eliminate unnecessary bureaucratic hurdles for applicants.
Ablakwa proposed integrating the Ghana Card into the passport application process to streamline services and improve efficiency. He criticized the current system, arguing that Ghanaians who already possess the Ghana Card should not be required to undergo additional biometric registration for passports.
“I’ll like to use technology to reform our passport services, and I do not think that in this age, Ghanaians with Ghana Card should be queuing to register for passports,” he stated.
Ablakwa explained that since the Ghana Card already contains biometric and personal data, it should be sufficient for passport issuance without requiring applicants to repeat the same processes. He believes that adopting a more technology-driven approach will reduce long queues and processing delays, enhancing the overall efficiency of passport administration.
As a seasoned politician with a strong background in public service, Ablakwa is confident that his proposed reforms will ease the burden on citizens and improve Ghana’s global competitiveness in travel document issuance.
