A tourism and Hotel Consultant Isaac Ayariga has bemoaned the hostile attitude that residents of the Upper East Region extend to tourists who visit the region to experience its tourist sites and beautiful culture.
According to the consultant, he observed with regret, how residents exploit some tourists by stealing their belongings in the region and he believes that creates a negative impression of the region.
Mr. Ayariga made this known on the special festive season edition of the Analysis show with a special focus on the hospitality industry with Prosper Adankai on GBC URA Radio in Bolgatanga on Friday, December 31, 2021 monitored by Apexnewsgh.com
” Can you imagine a tourist arrives in the region and someone taking his or her bag away? The person asks for direction but no one is ready to respond. He or she sits in a Taxi or the canopy tricycle and the rider or driver is stern and refuses to talk to the tourist about the potential in the region. CHASS had a conference for the first time in Bolgatanga but many complained to me about poor customer service. I had the opportunity to host a minister’s daughter in the Region. I offered to give her a ride and to take her round. She didn’t intend to go Paga but I took her to Paga and the Burkina border right through Zebilla. Do you know she wanted to try Frafra Dawadawa Jollof? But we combed through Bolga Market yet we did not find one.” Mr. Ayariga Stated.
He implored the Ghana Tourism Authority to offer more training to operators of the hospitality industry to sharpen their skills in their customer care services. Mr. Ayariga further called on Businessmen investing in the Hospitality industry to cater for the training of their staff in order to achieve maximum results adding that staff is the major driver who will either attract or wade off potential customers.
” First impression is the last impression. The service a customer gets will live with him or her and entice them to recommend or advertise your facility for others to come for a similar experience ” Mr. Ayariga stressed.
Mr. Ayariga bemoaned the fact that a lot of the fact that most hospitality industries in the Upper East Region are not mapped onto the google map for visibility to foreigners who want to visit the Region.
” A foreigner wanted to visit the Upper East Region and when he searched on google he could only locate Akayet Hotel. Meanwhile, there are other hotels that had lost out because they are not mapped onto the google map. No foreigner wants to get to the region and start asking for direction ” Mr. Ayariga intimated
Mr. Ayariga further expressed appreciation to the Ghana Tourism Authority for the training of operators of the hospitality industry on how to harness the potential of digitization and good customer care in order to improve the hospitality industry.
” We need more of such training to drive home the need to have a Facebook Account to boost your online presence. Many of the operators of the hospitality industry do not appreciate the advantage of having social media account for the industry.” he contended.
