Richard Jakpa, the third accused in the ongoing ambulance trial, has filed a court application seeking to have the charges against him dismissed or, alternatively, to have the proceedings against him stayed. Apexnewsgh reports The application, submitted by his lawyer Thaddeus Sory on Thursday, May 30, argues that the charges and proceedings initiated by Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame constitute an abuse of court processes and violate the obligations set forth in the 1992 Constitution of Ghana. Jakpa contends that the Attorney-General is misusing his constitutional powers by prosecuting him without justification, and claims that in private conversations, the Attorney-General admitted that there is no case against him. This assertion further supports Jakpa’s argument that the prosecution is unwarranted and constitutes an abuse of power. The application states, “The Attorney-General at whose instance the Third Accused/ Applicant is being prosecuted in the instant suit has brought the charges and instituted the proceedings in abuse of the process of the court and contrary to his constitutional obligations under articles 23 and 296 of the 1992 Constitution.” This development comes after Jakpa claimed last week that the Attorney-General had encouraged him to provide false testimony against Dr. Ato Forson during the trial. The National Democratic Congress (NDC) released a 16-minute phone recording purportedly capturing a conversation between Attorney-General Godfred Dame and Jakpa, which allegedly reveals Dame coaching Jakpa on what statements to make in court to incriminate Dr. Ato Forson. NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia asserted at a press conference on May 28 that the tape exposed a coaching session intended to manipulate Jakpa’s testimony. The outcome of this application will be a significant development in the ongoing trial. Source: Apexnewsgh.com Thanks for reading from Apexnewsgh as a news publishing website from Ghana. Minority Leader Disputes NPP’s Attempt to Absolve Vice President of Economic Challenges
Minority Leader Cassiel Ato Forson of Ghana’s Ajumako Enyan Essiam Constituency, has refuted the claims made by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) that Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia should be absolved of Ghana’s economic challenges. Forson argues that the NPP’s attempts to shift blame from Bawumia for political gain are misleading. Forson firmly asserts that Ghanaians are vigilant and will not be swayed into voting for Bawumia as president in the upcoming elections. He criticizes the NPP’s campaign strategy, stating that they now attempt to depict Bawumia as absolved of any responsibility for the significant economic turmoil that Ghana has experienced. These comments from the Minority Leader come at a time when discussions about Ghana’s economic challenges are ongoing, along with debates over the role that key government officials played in creating them. As the elections draw near, such statements highlight the increasing scrutiny of the government’s economic policies and their impact on the nation. Approval of new ministers: Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu expresses disappointment in minority leadership
The Parliamentary Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has condemned the leadership of the minority caucus in Parliament over its posture on the approval of six new ministerial appointees. He said, the House was scheduled to vote on the approval of the six ministerial nominees of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, but the leaders of the minority caucus said they were going to speak to their members to see whether the approval could be done by consensus. Speaking in an interview with Neat FM on Friday, March 24, 2023, which was monitored by ApexnewsGh, the majority leader stated that the vote was delayed for hours only for the minority leaders to come and say that they were sticking to the party position. “In the beginning, they (the minority leaders) said that we should vote on the approval of the ministers, then later they said the approval should be done by consensus. Yesterday, they came back to tell us that we should vote for the approval of the ministers. “The position of their party is that they should not approve the ministers, but they said we should give them time for them to consult the party, only for them to return to tell us that they are taking their party’s position. “I was disappointed because they gave us the indication that they were going to change their minds. If they knew they were not going to change their stance, then we should have voted on the approval early,” he said in Twi. GHS22bn worth of new money printed by gov’t without approval of Parliament – Minority
The Minority Parliament has registered dissatisfaction about the government’s support to the Bank of Government (BoG) to print more money without parliament’s approval. According to the Minority led by Mr. Cassiel Ato Forson, between the periods of January 2022 to June 2022 the BoG has printed an amount of GHS 22 billion on the orders of the government and Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta. Mr. Cassiel Ato Forson raised the issue at a press conference after the Mid–Year Budget Review was delivered by Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta on Monday, 25 July 2022. He noted that no wonder inflation is galloping and Ghana’s reserve dwindling under the watch of the managers of the economy. Mr. Forson was of the view that this was gross illegality committed by the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Ernest Addison. He said the records indicate that the government has encouraged the BoG to print an amount of GHS 48 million and GHS22 billion respectively without due process.
