Do you expect us to use bread knife from Mrs Akufo-Addo’s kitchen for the clean-up exercise? –NDC Youth to Akufo-Addo

The youth wing of the National Democratic Congress in the Greater Accra Region has politely asked President Nana Akufo-Addo whether he expected them to use a bread knife from Mrs. Akufo-Addo’s kitchen instead of the machetes they were seen using during their clean-up operation at former President John Mahama’s residence in Accra. “If that was the case, what stopped him from sending any of his wandering elephant-size presidential staffers to make them available to us?” a statement signed by Amorse Amos Blessing, Regional Youth Organizer, said. President Akufo-Addo condemned their act: “It is my honest hope that the machetes and weapons brandished last week at the residence of the NDC’s presidential candidate, the former President John Mahama, are not signs of things to come in the run-up to the 2024 elections elections”. “If it is, I can assure them that they will find no success with them”. President warned. The youth further question why the President did not send his own staff to assist them. This response was prompted by the President’s concern that the use of weapons during the clean-up might signify potential violence in the upcoming 2024 elections. The President emphasized his commitment to preventing any individual or group from destabilizing the country and undermining the peace that citizens currently enjoy. IMF: NPP man lambast government leadership, questioned whereabout of the men.

One of the controversial outspoken member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Wilson Dabuo, has questioned the whereabout of the men his party claimed they have. Dabuo dissatisfaction resurrected after the official release from the office of the President of the Republic Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo through the Information Ministry instructing the Finance Minister to engage with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). He said, “I believe the President will at this time show some leadership. Change the team A, as the country awaits the IMF arrival. Not only is there hunger in the country, there’s also a pure sight of anger!” Read his full Meta post below: The Wind of  Change that blew across Ghana in the runner up to the 2016 election was such manifest that the opposition then and now government had the goodwill of the people. Motivated by such goodwill, the citizenry were told thatthey have the men and women to deliver. I dare ask the question,Where are the men and the women? Where are they that we can’t see them at work? If this is the team A, they obviously  have not been satisfactory enough! Or it is only the President that see their respective performance? Like the Black Stars of Ghana, we always blame others for our lack of good  showing. Thus, weBlamed COVID-19 and the Russia-Ukraine war. But never thought for once that the team players are core structures in this whole meltdown. How on earth can a President with a cream of competences around him wish to play certain midfielders when indeed there are obvious injuries? I agree we turn to the IMF but until this team of persons around the Presidency are changed, like the joke of the e-levy, the IMF cannot be a panacea either.I believe the President will at this time show some leadership. Change the team A, as the country awaits the IMF arrival. Not only is there hunger in the country, there’s also a pure sight of anger! Source: apexnewsgh.com

It’s in your interest to help us develop – Akufo-Addo to EU

President Nana Akufo-Addo has said the relationship between Africa and Europe should be the catalyst to further ensure that Africa gets the needed assistance, especially in these trying times. According to him, the long-standing relationship between Africa and Europe, founded on ties of blood, culture, geography and history, should serve as a platform for enhanced co-operation between the two continents. “Indeed, no one needs to tell us that the issues of peace, progress and prosperity in Africa and Europe are deeply intertwined, which pre-suppose that ensuring the development of Africa should be in our common interest. Now more than ever, strong partnership between Europe and Africa, reinforced political dialogue, and expanded co-operation in the fields of economic growth and international security, are required,” the Ghanaian leader said in a keynote speech at the 15th Edition of the European Development Days (EDD) in Brussels, Belgium, on Tuesday, 21st June 2022. President Akufo-Addo continued, “We have to work together to achieve our goals, including a fair, equitable process of energy transition, which recognises that the entire African continent is responsible for less than four per cent (4%) of global emissions, and which safeguards the prospects of Africa’s development.” It is for these reasons, according to the President, that the establishment of the three hundred billion euro (€300 billion) Global Gateway package by the European Union, which aims to boost public and private investment in the areas of infrastructure, energy and green transition, digital transformation, growth and jobs, transport and human development over the next seven years, is very much welcomed. President Akufo-Addo emphasised that the package must be innovative in its approaches to infrastructure investments and financing, and should be characterised by demand driven projects, which deliver on African defined priorities. The President also expressed hope that over these two days, the series of high-level panel sessions and debates, framed around the five key investment areas of Global Gateway, i.e., digital, climate and energy, transport, health, education and research, will produce outcomes that will prove beneficial in the successful implementation of infrastructural developments across Africa. “In the next few years, we must be able to see tangible projects across Africa as proof of the fruits of the strategic partnership that exists between Africa and Europe. Excellent relations between Europe and Africa are essential to global security in this 21st century, which should lead us onto the path of shared progress and prosperity”, he concluded. President Nana Akufo-Addo also urged the global community to increase its efforts to help developing countries withstand the devastations caused by the deadly coronavirus pandemic. President Akufo-Addo emphasised the need for the global community to increase efforts to help developing countries to safeguard their economies from the dire effects of COVID-19. He also pointed out that developing economies have had their plights further worsened by the raging Russian/Ukrainian conflict, a development, he said, is having a toll on only Ghana and Africa in particular but also much of the developing countries. He further revealed the deadly effects of the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine on African economies and what lies in stock for developing countries, citing a recent United Nations report estimates that seventy percent (70%) of Africa’s economies are at severe risk from the Russian war in Ukraine. “The World Bank also tells us that, subsequent to the conflict, the number of poor people in sub-Sahara African countries would rise from four hundred and thirteen million (413 million) to four hundred and sixty-three million (463 million) this year, an increase of fifty million (50 million) persons,” he stressed. President Akufo-Addo continued, “In the midst of this, eighteen (18) African economies have experienced credit downgrades, even when all economies are suffering adverse fallouts from last year’s pandemic, and we, in Africa, are also facing the risk of so-called “taper-tantrums”, as investors exit our markets, thereby exacerbating the increasing cost of borrowing” he further added. He noted further said that, at the moment, support for non-IMF programme countries to alleviate the debt burden is limited, as the initial facility designed by the G20 countries to offer respite to economies with elevated debt challenges – the Debt Service Suspension Initiative (DSSI) – has expired since December 2021, and has not been renewed. In these trying times, President Akufo-Addo observed that an amount of six hundred and fifty billion (650 billion) Special Drawing Rights (SDR), approved for the IMF in August 2021, which was meant to provide significant relief, has seen Africa receive a total of only US$33 billion (about 5 per cent). Moreover, the promise to reallocate some US$100 billion of the SDR allocations to African economies, agreed to at the Paris Summit in May 2019, has so far yielded about US$36 billion in pledges as of April 2022, he indicated. “Then, there is the matter of the “African Risk Premium”, when African entities are borrowing from the market, which increases the cost of capital, and which must be addressed, especially as Africa provides the highest return on investments obtainable anywhere, and has a good record of debt repayment,” the President said. The combined effects of the debt situation, rising interest rates and rising cost of living are resulting in severe macroeconomic and financial instability, the President stated, adding that “what is clear, he pointed out, is that the ensuing damage cannot be cured so easily with the limited fiscal tools at our disposal and national policy adjustments,” he added. —classfm

Sack Health Minister over messy Sputnik-V vaccine procurement deal – Martin Kpebu to Akufo-Addo

A Private Legal Practitioner, Martin Kpebu, has called on President Akufo-Addo to sack the Health Minister, Kwaku Agyeman Manu. According to him, the Minister has not shown prudence in the handling of the procurement of the Sputnik – V vaccine for the national inoculation exercise. A Norwegian news tabloid, Verdens Gang, reported that Ghana has made a request to purchase 3.4 million doses of the Sputnik V vaccine through two businessmen who are selling it to Ghana at $19 per dose instead of the $10 per dose on the international market. This has generated public uproar, with the Minority in Parliament and others calling for the cancellation of the deal. However, the government has explained that it could not secure the vaccines directly from the manufacturer, hence the need to go through some middlemen, and that explains why the cost is higher than the standard price of the Russian vaccine. But Martin Kpebu in an interview Citi News insisted that the Health Minister has failed in that regard. He said the least the President can do is to sack him. “He should know that Ghanaians are very vigilant; so this one, I think the Health Minister has been too sloppy and the least the President can do is to sack him. The President should know that we are very angry with what the Health Minister has done, he has not shown prudence at all and has also shown no sensitivity to how Ghanaians react to issues of money.” The Minority in Parliament is demanding the immediate abrogation of the contract. According to the Ranking Member on the Health Committee, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, revelations about the government procuring vaccines at $19 per dose instead of $10 smacks of financial impropriety and cost inflation. “The minority in Parliament will urge the government to reconsider both terms of this contract with particular emphasis on price and work assiduously through proper diplomatic and approved channels to secure COVID-19 vaccines for Ghanaians.” He also believes the deal should have gone to Parliament for approval because it passes for an international agreement. “This contract is unconstitutional, null, and void and the government should abrogate and refrain from making any payment with respect to this contract before laying the entirety of the contract before Parliament for scrutiny and subsequent approval.” —citinewsroom Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications. Reach out to Mahama, NDC leadership to build consensus – Minority to Akufo-Addo

The Minority Leader in parliament, Haruna Iddrisu has advised President Akufo-Addo to go beyond his rhetoric of asking both sides of the House to work together and engage with the opposition to dialogue and find compromising areas to develop the country. He said contrary to claims by the president that both sides have an almost equal number is not the case because they all have 137 seats with an independent candidate. He opines the 8th Parliament has no majority, and that is something that proves that the Ghanaian people are not happy with the polarisation, partisanship. He said Ghanaians want to see the opportunities of this country shared equally. At a joint press briefing today, Wednesday, January 6, 2021, he said compromises and consensus-building should not just be word of mouth, but the president should reach out to his opponents. “What has he done since the election to reach out to the NDC nad to reach out to His Excellency John Mahama and the leadership of the NDC in the spirit of building consensus and cooperation” It is important he does that”. He drew the attention of the president to a situation where he would have to appoint his ministers from parliament and his inability to have the numbers to work with. On his part, the Majority Leader Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu underscored the need for the 8th Parliament to work in the interest of Ghanaians. He said the current situation presents them with an opportunity to work together, set a new standard for improving our democratic governance and indeed the operations of our own parliament. He stressed we must see ourselves as one people in one country with one destiny and thus, in everything that we do, we should be informed about the unity and stability of this country. Discussions on galamsey must not be politicised – Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo has made a passionate plea to leaders of the country to take discussions on galamsey (illegal mining) out of the party-political arena. This, according to him, will allow for a productive dialogue that will address the menace. “We, who are leaders, owe it to the country to take the subject out of the party-political arena and have an honest conversation about this menace to our future. While delivering his final State of the Nation Address for his first term in office, Mr. Akufo-Addo stressed the need for an immediate solution to galamsey as its continued practice “leads to the pollution of our water bodies and the devastation of our landscape”. Galamsey has posed a major environmental challenge to the nation for decades due to its attendant effect on our lands, water bodies, and forests. Although small-scale mining is a preserve of Ghanaians, some foreigners, particularly the Chinese have circumvented the system by providing mining support services to local miners and have over time become owners of the mining concessions by either buying concessions from Ghanaians or from the chiefs. In his address to the nation, the President referred to the use of some of these types of illegal mining equipment that degrades our environment as “dangers” to our environment. “The problem we have is the use of modern technology that leads to the illegal mining methods posing serious dangers to our water bodies and the health of our environment,” he stated. “The pollution of our rivers and water resources has been so acute on occasion that the Ghana Water Company is unable to afford the distilling of water to make for safe drinking. With a promise to put his presidency on the line to fight against galamsey when he assumed office as president in 2017, Akufo-Addo instituted many measures including the setting up of Operation Vanguard, a Military Police Joint Task Force (JTF) to combat the menace. However, in recent times, it appears that the fight has been has lost. By calling for the depoliticisation of the discussion on galamsey, it is hoped that collectively, Ghana will find a lasting solution to this menace and preserve our environment for posterity.
