The Chief Executive Officer of Norgence Albert Naa has admonished entities responsible for ensuring peace in the region to be more proactive on social media by taking advantage of their communication channels through social media.

The I.T. expert offered the advice at a forum Organized by A1 radio Dubbed: Maintaining Peace In The Upper East Region; The Role Of The Media, Traditional Leaders & CSOs monitored by Apexnewsgh.com on Wednesday, April 26, 2023.

Mr. Naa when given the platform said: “People make a lot of money when there is war, so it is not in their interest to ensure peace. So, if you allow these people to always break the news, we are all in trouble. So take advantage of communication channels like social media and make sure that you have online peace-making groups. “…let me emphasis this, it is a conscious effort on its own, it will not happen by chance, It will not happen because people want peace, peace must be a conscious effort in peacebuilding”.

“So, just as you are ensuring peace in all the other areas of our lives, social media have groups and be the first person to break the news and these people will further enhance the communication and how the information is spread”. He advised

Mostly, information channeled out by those causing conflict is done through social media, he further advised these entities responsible for ensuring peace to always make use of the social media tools like ‘Disclaimer’ to correct any amount of falsehood channeled out by conflict initiators.

“Social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram and all that have tools to ensure that misinformation is kept such as disclaimers, make good use of them by pointing out things that are not the truth and you would see that people will begin to ascribe with the truth and begin to distance themselves from it. That is one aspect, we are all peacebuilders, it is a shared responsibility and you know there are people who have the mandate to ensure that they chattered the road for all of us to follow”.

However, he identified youth unemployment as a major reason youth are easily used for causing conflict by those who used conflict as their source of livelihood.

“When people want to cause trouble, they used certain hands. If those hands are idle, that is when they are available, if those hands have something meaningful to do, there is no way will succeed, and mostly we the young people are mostly used, because the older people don’t have the strength and they cannot run around and so, no one will like to use them to cause violence or war. Unfortunately, we are the many people rooming with no jobs and they engage in violence and conflict because there is no job.
