The Achimota Court has imposed a fine of GHS200 on each of the 16 individuals affiliated with the New Patriotic Party, who unlawfully entered the premises of UTV on October 7, 2023.
All of them were found guilty as charged by the Achimota Court, which convicted them based on their participation in conspiracy to commit a crime and rioting.
The accused individuals, without contesting the charges, pleaded guilty to the offenses mentioned.
During the incident, these individuals forcibly entered the UTV studios and specifically sought out the whereabouts of one of the panelists named A Plus.
Led by the Klottey Korle Youth Organiser of the NPP, the assailants expressed their dissatisfaction with UTV’s entertainment program, claiming it had morphed into a political show. Consequently, they demanded representation on the show.
The invasion faced significant backlash from various organizations and entities including the Ghana Journalists Association, the National Media Commission, the Information Ministry, and other recognized groups, all of whom condemned the incident.
