Mr. Muminu Mutaru, Deputy Chief of Party for USAID AGREE Activity, has emphasized the importance of collaboration and responsible journalism in his opening speech at a training workshop for journalists in the Upper East Region to counter hate speech, misinformation and Conflict sensitive reporting. He highlighted the successful collaboration between the USAID AGREE Activity and the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) in organizing a Training of Trainers (TOT) for journalist across the regions of the North in the Upper West Region and a subsequent step-down training in Bolgatanga.
Mr. Mutaru acknowledged the crucial role played by GJA executives in selecting representatives from the Upper East region for the TOT.
He expressed appreciation for the GJA’s ongoing support and commitment to shared goals.
The training aimed to equip journalists with skills to maintain peace and avoid harm through hate speech, misinformation, and conflict-sensitive reporting, especially with the 2024 elections approaching.
