Tensions flared in the Chiana-Paga constituency of the Upper East Region on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, as over a hundred members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) youth wing took drastic action, locking up the District Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) office. Apexnewsgh reports
The protest was sparked by allegations that NPP-affiliated farmers were being unfairly excluded from the government’s Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) 2.0 fertilizer distribution initiative.
The aggrieved youth claimed that opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) members were the primary beneficiaries of the PFJ 2.0 program, a situation they deemed a blatant disregard for NPP supporters during the sensitive political campaign season.
Kassim Mubashir Mandela, the NPP Constituency Youth Organiser, expressed his frustration, stating, “How can a government initiative be skewed against its own people?”
The protesters demanded transparency and fairness in the distribution of PFJ 2.0 fertilizers, threatening to keep the office locked until their grievances were addressed by the national NPP executives.
The standoff highlights the deepening tensions within the party and the government’s agricultural agenda, as the youth wing insists that the office will remain closed until a fair distribution is ensured.
