EC Chair to Address Parliament on Ablekuma North Election Impasse

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa, is set to appear before Parliament this week to address concerns surrounding the unresolved parliamentary election in the Ablekuma North Constituency.

The constituency has been without a Member of Parliament since the December 7 general elections due to a dispute over the collation of results from some polling centers.

The issue has stalled representation for constituents in the legislature for over six months, leaving residents without a voice in Parliament. In a bid to resolve the impasse, the Minority caucus formally petitioned the Ghana Police Service on June 4 to provide adequate security to enable the Electoral Commission to complete the re-collation process safely and transparently.

Jean Mensa is scheduled to brief the Committee of the Whole in Parliament on the progress made so far in resolving the impasse. Lawmakers are expected to seek clarity on the EC’s timeline for finalizing the collation and declaring the outcome of the vote. The appearance is highly anticipated, and constituents are eagerly awaiting a resolution to the prolonged electoral dispute.

During her appearance, Jean Mensa will likely face questions from lawmakers on the EC’s plan to resolve the issue and ensure that the constituency is represented in Parliament. The outcome of the meeting will be closely watched, and it is expected to provide insight into the EC’s commitment to resolving the impasse and restoring representation to the Ablekuma North Constituency.
