A tense exchange erupted during the vetting session of Defence Minister-designate, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, on Tuesday, January 28. Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, presented a document containing Dr. Boamah’s social media comments, questioning him about statements he made regarding the Ghana International School (GIS) land issue. Apexnewsgh reports
The GIS land issue sparked controversy on September 5, 2024, when Dr. Boamah condemned the activities of “land looters” under the NPP administration. Mr. Afenyo-Markin sought clarification on these comments, leading to a heated exchange.
In response, Dr. Boamah argued that the matter had already been settled and suggested that the incident could involve an investor acting without government approval. Mr. Afenyo-Markin clarified that he was not challenging Dr. Boamah’s statements but rather seeking further clarification.
The exchange took a surprising turn when Mr. Afenyo-Markin cautioned Dr. Boamah against denying him “protocol allocation” due to the rigorous questioning. He stated that in the past, committee members from the National Democratic Congress side had benefited from protocol allocations even more than their NPP counterparts.
This remark has sparked controversy, with many criticizing the Minority Leader for publicly discussing protocol enlistment into the Ghana Armed Forces. Others have raised concerns about the integrity of the committee, accusing them of engaging in corrupt practices.
