The Ghana Police Service has released a statement reminding the religious community to comply with the law when publishing false news, especially concerning prophecies, as the year concludes.
The police expressed their appreciation to faith-based groups and individuals for adhering to the law when communicating prophecies. This adherence has not only protected the rights and freedoms of those affected by these prophecies, but has also helped in maintaining a society free from unnecessary panic, fear, and alarm.
The police stressed the importance of patriotism and obeying the law for faith-based groups and individuals in order to preserve the current state of law, order, and security in the country.
While acknowledging the constitutional rights to practice faith and freedom of speech, the police emphasized that these rights should be exercised with respect for the rights and freedoms of others and for the public’s well-being.
The police have issued a directive designating December 27 as “prophecy communication compliance day” and have called on religious communities to adhere to the law when communicating prophecies.
They reminded all citizens about their duty to practice their faith within the legal framework and emphasized the importance of respecting the rights of others in order to maintain a peaceful and secure society.
