The recent arrest of the Democracy Hub group during the #OccupyJulorbiHouse demonstration on Thursday September 21, 2023, has been deemed as shameful by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The Police successfully obtained an application from the court and served the organizers of the Democracy Hub group, who had planned a demonstration near the Jubilee House from Thursday 21st to Saturday 23rd September 2023.
However, the demonstrators gathered near the 37 transport stations in Accra on Thursday morning and were subsequently apprehended by the Police.
In response to these arrests, the NDC has expressed their belief that this incident represents a significant setback for Ghana’s democracy.
“This shameful show of brute force runs counter to that. It’s regrettable the police would think that violence and suppression of human rights is the best way to address issues.
“After 31 years of our democratic journey, it is a crying shame that we cannot find more peaceful ways to address these issues. This is a massive step backward for our democracy,” General Secretary of the NDC said
